Scottish forensic science expert to take part in Brisbane conference
One of Scotland’s leading experts in forensic science will discuss the role of science in the courtroom with a senior member of the Australian judiciary at a conference later this month.
Professor Niamh Nic Daeid, director of the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science (LRCFS) at the University of Dundee, is set to participate in a number of events at the World Science Festival Brisbane 2019.
These will see her defend the need for high quality science to underpin forensic science, discuss the role of science in the courtroom with a senior member of the Australian judiciary, and take part in a panel session looking at how real life forensic science is much more than the version glamourised in popular culture.
Professor Nic Daeid said: “I am delighted to be invited to speak at the World Science Festival in Brisbane. What an amazing event to be involved in and such a wonderful opportunity to showcase the excellence and excitement of the research in forensic science that we are undertaking right in the heart of Dundee.”
The Leverhulme Research Centre in Forensic Science is a 10-year, £10 million project funded by the Leverhulme Trust and directed by Professor Nic Daeid.
Working closely with both Scottish and English judiciaries, forensic scientists and law enforcement, the aim of LRCFS is to ensure that there is robust science underpinning the forensic evidence presented within the courts.
