Scottish government lawyer to attend Brexit case in London
A senior lawyer instructed by the Scottish government will attend proceedings in the High Court in London today as campaigners challenge the process by which the UK will begin Brexit negotiations with the EU.
It is not formally involved in the case, but is “keeping a close eye” on all court actions related to Brexit.
The Scottish government also made a submission relating to questions of devolution in a Brexit case currently going through the High Court in Belfast.
A Scottish government spokesperson said: “As the First Minister said to the European and external relations committee on September 14, the Scottish government is keeping a close eye on the court actions and will assess them at all stages as they proceed to see whether there is an argument for us to become more directly involved to make sure that the Scottish government and Scottish Parliament are protected.
“In relation to the proceedings before the High Court in England, we are monitoring the position very carefully and have instructed counsel to attend the hearing in London this week to observe the proceedings.”
