Scottish Law Commission’s annual report published
The Scottish Law Commission’s annual report for 2023 has been published.
The report outlines progress on the commission’s law reform work during 2023. It explains the commission’s work to promote law reform, notes the implementation to date of the commission’s recommendations, and contains a forward look at publications planned for 2024.
2023 was the first year of the commission’s 11th programme of law reform, which covers the period from the start of the year to the end of 2027.
The report discusses our work on a number of projects including: aspects of family law; homicide; surrogacy; securities over land; the termination of commercial leases; compulsory owners’ associations in tenements; and damages for personal injury. Further details can be found in the report.
Chair of the commission, Lady Paton, said: “2023 has resulted in welcome progress on implementation of a number of important SLC reports. These include the updating of the law of trusts, and the introduction of a new means of taking security over moveable property. 2023 also saw the publication of our new Programme of Law Reform, with a total of 11 projects.
“One of these projects (surrogacy) has resulted in a joint report, and we are currently working on six of the others. Finally, we have been delighted with our move in June 2023 to refurbished space in Parliament House where the location and layout are better suited to modern work methods.”
