Scottish law firm helping Eastern European companies gain foothold in UK
Harper Macleod is growing its business from overseas by assisting companies in Eastern Europe gain a foothold in the UK, while advising Scottish businesses interested in expanding abroad.
Romanian digital textbook company Lean Forwardhas established a presence in the UK after it was advised by Harper Macleod.
David Kaye (pictured), a partner at the firm who specialises in business law and franchising, said companies in Eastern Europe looking to expand into the UK are often dissuaded by the high cost of London law firms, whose rates are among the highest in the world.
Harper Macleod has managed to persuade businesses in Romania and the Baltic states that by making use of a Scottish firm they can get the advice they need to establish their businesses and at rates closer to those they would pay in their own countries.
For the past 18 months Mr Kaye has made regular business trips to Bucharest as well as the Baltic capitals, generating business for the firm, particularly in the area of public private partnerships as well as promoting Scotland’s legal expertise.
