Scottish lawyers launch transatlantic venture
UK corporate law firm Nimmo WS has signed a deal with Manhattan law firm Rooney PC to create Rooney Nimmo, a joint legal venture with offices in Edinburgh, New York and London.
A new office has been opened in the City of London. Both principals are graduates of University of Edinburgh Law School.
Nimmo WS, based in Edinburgh, is run by its principal, John Nimmo who is also a New York registered attorney.
Mr Nimmo, a former corporate lawyer with Dickson Minto WS, set up Nimmo WS in September 2009 to handle corporate and investment fund legal work.
He said: “We are delighted to create this joint venture with Allan Rooney and his team in the United States.
“It gives Nimmo WS the firepower to handle client work across international legal jurisdictions.
“With our existing European capabilities, our enhanced American offering means we can tackle larger multi-national corporate transactions in the UK, Europe and America.”
Mr Rooney said: “We are excited to be working together with Nimmo WS.
“We are now able to service our existing British clients at home and in America while enhancing our transatlantic mergers and acquisition and venture capital finance practice.”
The Rooney Nimmo office in London is being run by Edward Sloan, who joined Nimmo WS in 2011 and was previously with Turcan Connell, where he handled tax, trusts and asset management.
