Scottish Solicitors Bar Association to give evidence on juryless trials
The Scottish Solicitors Bar Association (SSBA) has accepted an invitation by the Criminal Justice Committee to give oral evidence on the Victims, Witnesses and Justice Reform (Scotland) Bill after having been initially snubbed.
Simon Brown, vice-president of the SSBA, will appear before the committee on 6 February.
Criminal Justice Committee convener, Audrey Nicoll MSP, said: “The committee has agreed to schedule an additional committee meeting on Tuesday 6 February for the purposes of hearing from the Scottish Solicitors Bar Association on Parts 5 and 6 of the Victims, Witnesses and Justice Reform Bill.
“We are pleased they have accepted our invitation to appear before the committee.
“The SSBA were invited to provide written evidence to the committee which they have now submitted and is available on the Parliament website. The committee takes seriously its scrutiny role and the SSBA’s submission raises some important issues that members wish to explore before they complete evidence taking at Stage 1.”
