The Scottish Public Law Group will host an online seminar tomorrow entitled Covid-19: legislative and judicial responses.

As Covid-19 restrictions in Scotland begin to loosen, now seems like a good time to take stock of the role that law and lawyers have played in shaping the nation’s crisis response – whether that is through the implementation and easing of restrictions, judicial challenges to the legality of those restrictions or the establishment of a ‘human rights based’ public inquiry tasked to learn lessons from the handling of the pandemic.

At this free to attend online Scottish Public Law Group event we have a terrific panel of speakers who are well placed to assess the legislative and judicial responses to Covid-19 so far, as well as the trends emerging from this period that we might (for better or worse) carry forward with us.  Lynda Towers, Director of Public Law at Morton Fraser will chair an expert panel of speakers comprising:

• Professor Fiona De Londras is chair of Global Studies at Birmingham Law School, where she directs the Covid-19 Review Observatory;
• David Welsh is an advocate at the Scottish bar with specialisms in public law, judicial review and human rights;
• Alan Miller is professor of practice in human rights law at Strathclyde Law School’s Centre for the Study of Human Rights Law and is a former chair of the Scottish Human Rights Commission. 

The event will begin at 17:15 and there will be time following the talks for questions and answers. Please note that the event may be recorded and the recording used, shared or distributed by the Scottish Public Law Group. This event is free and will attract 1.5 hours of CPD.
