Senior Aberdeen lawyer secures insolvency qualification
Rebecca Walker, a senior associate with Ledingham Chalmers, has secured a certificate of proficiency in insolvency (CPI).
This qualification is offered by the Insolvency Practitioners’ Association for those specialising in the insolvency field.
Covering both personal and corporate insolvency, CPI gives students a solid foundation in both the legal framework surrounding insolvency, and the duties and responsibilities of insolvency practitioners. Usually a qualification obtained by those within the accountancy sector, Ms Walker is one of few lawyers to have secured the award.
Tim Thomas, the partner heading Ledingham Chalmers’ insolvency practice, said the qualification highlights Ms Walker’s dedication and enthusiasm for the subject, and illustrates the depth of talent at the firm.
“Rebecca’s qualification strengthens the firm’s insolvency offering to clients. As a team, we regularly advise both individuals and companies facing insolvency, or clients looking to realise assets through an insolvency process. Rebecca’s qualification sits very well with our pragmatic, commercial and rounded approach to what can be complex and challenging issues,” he said.
Ms Walker, who continued to work full-time through her studies added: “The firm has for a number of years been advising clients on a complex insolvency involving the administration of a company, and the sequestration of a partnership and individual.
“The case raised novel issues on both corporate and personal insolvency surrounding the appointment of a judicial factor, the winding up of a business which continued to trade with resulting animal welfare issues, and litigation arising from disputes as to which entity owned various assets. Having worked closely with clients, including insolvency practitioners, on these issues I felt securing the CPI was a natural progression.
“It was a challenge doing this alongside work, but I’m pleased to have achieved the qualification to round off all the hard work.”
