Shepherd and Wedderburn partner finishes Women in Property tenure

Shepherd and Wedderburn partner, Sally Morris-Smith, will step down as the chairman of the South East branch of Women in Property (WiP) at the end of this month. Having served a successful one-year term, Ms Morris-Smith will introduce incoming chairman, Marcia Gillings from the London Borough of Wandsworth and Richmond, at the WiP AGM and Networking breakfast seminar being hosted at Shepherd and Wedderburn’s central London offices on 22nd February.

Ms Morris-Smith, who has been a member of WiP for nine years, is a partner in the London real estate and infrastructure division and advises property companies on the acquisition and development of mixed use sites.

Under Ms Morris-Smith’s tenure, the branch has hosted more than 50 events focused on networking, mentoring, and personal development.

She said: “I’m honoured to have served as chairman of the Women in Property South East branch for the past year.

“WiP has been supporting women in the property and construction sector for 30 years, advocating diversity and knowledge sharing, and working hard to widen the appeal of property and construction to women who might not have considered it as a career choice.

“It is crucial that the sector is balanced in terms of not only gender, but ethnicity, educational background, and skill set.

“It’s encouraging to see so many women involved in an organisation like this and I look forward to continuing to play an active role in WiP as it continues its great work.”

Shepherd and Wedderburn lawyers continue to play active and leading roles in industry bodies. In the property space, another of its lawyers, Emma Carmichael, will take up the post of chairman of the Central Scotland branch of WiP beginning 1st March, succeeding Gemma Smith. Ms Carmichael’s introduction as chairman will take place at the WiP 26th Annual Dinner at Glasgow’s iconic Grand Central Hotel Friday 24th February.
