Sheriff Iain Fleming

Sheriff Fleming was appointed as a part-time sheriff in 2005 and as a full-time sheriff in 2014, following a career as a solicitor and solicitor advocate.

He served in the sheriffdom of North Strathclyde at Greenock Sheriff Court until 2017, and since then has sat in Glasgow Sheriff Court, conducting courts at summary and solemn level.

As part of his duties in Glasgow, he has presided at the problem-solving Alcohol Court since February 2018. He has also been a shrieval member of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland since 2011.

Sheriff Fleming replaces Sheriff Norman McFadyen, who stepped down following the completion of his five-year term on the council.

Lady Dorrian, Lord Justice Clerk and chair of the Scottish Sentencing Council, said: “Following a successful recruitment exercise I am delighted to welcome Sheriff Iain Fleming to the Scottish Sentencing Council. Sheriff Fleming has extensive experience both as a solicitor and a sheriff. His experience and knowledge of problem-solving courts and mental health issues will in particular be extremely helpful to the work of the Council.

“Sheriff Fleming joins us at a busy time for the Council as we finalise guidelines on the sentencing process and young people, while continuing our work on guidelines for offences of causing death by driving and sexual offences.”
