Sheriff Principal Abercrombie to be appeal court’s vice president
Sheriff Principal Abercrombie will replace Sheriff Principal Craig Scott QC, who retires on 31 August. The appointment, until 20 April, 2020, was confirmed by the Lord President.
Ian Abercrombie graduated with an LLB Hons from Edinburgh University in 1978 and joined the Faculty of Advocates in 1981. He served as a curator of the Advocates Library, and was a member of the disciplinary committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, and of a Scottish Law Commission advisory group.
He took silk in 1993, and was appointed a sheriff in 2009. He became Sheriff Principal of South Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway in 2014.
