Sheriff Principal Anwar appointed as temporary judge
The Sheriff Principal of Glasgow and Strathkelvin, Aisha Anwar, has been appointed by the Scottish ministers to act as a temporary judge.
Sheriff Principal Anwar was appointed sheriff principal of South Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway in 2020 and transferred to Glasgow & Strathkelvin in 2023. Before that she served as a sheriff from 2014 and part-time sheriff from 2011.
Sheriff Principal Anwar is the president of the Sheriff Appeal Court.
She is a member of the SCTS board, former member of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland and current chair of the Summary Case Management Pilot Project Board.
She graduated from the University of Edinburgh (LLB Hons) in 1996 and from the University of Oxford (Bachelor of Civil Law) in 1998. She joined Maclay Murray and Spens in 1998 as a trainee, was admitted as a solicitor in 2000 and became an associate in 2003. From 2009 to 2012 she became a partner and head of litigation for Scotland in a global law firm.
Her appointment is effective from 17 June 2024.
