Shetland briefing session on EU citizens’ rights and Brexit to be held next month
Solicitors and immigration advisors in the Shetlands will have an opportunity to attend a free briefing session on “EU Citizens’ Rights” in Lerwick next month, on 4 September.
The session will feature talks by two experts on Brexit and immigration law, David Brown (head of immigration, Drummond Miller LLP) and advocate Mark Lazarowicz.
The topics will include details of the draft EU-UK agreement on citizens’ rights post-Brexit, along with details of the UK government proposals for ‘settled status’ to put the EU-UK agreement into effect. There will also be a brief outline of what Brexit might mean for the rights of EU citizens to access housing, benefits, and other public services.
The session will also look at some of the practical issues for those dealing with cases and queries from EU citizens, as well as a brief consideration of what a ‘no deal’ Brexit might mean for EU citizens’ rights.
The event will qualify for CPD, and will be of interest not just to lawyers, but to immigration advisers and those in public bodies and NGOs who at present provide services and advice to EU citizens.
It will be held from 5 pm to 6 pm at the Shetland College campus of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), Gremista, Lerwick.
Places are free, but should be booked in advance, on Eventbrite.
The event is part of a series being organised by the “EU Citizens Rights Project – Scotland” which brings together EU migrants’ organisations and a range of NGOs concerned with EU citizens’ rights before and after Brexit, with the support of the EU Commission Office in Scotland.
