Shetland’s new sheriff to take up post next month
The new sheriff at Lerwick Sheriff Court will take up his post next month, the Shetland News reports.
Sheriff Ian Hay Cruickshank, 51, was appointed to the Sheriffdom of Grampian, Highland and Islands before Christmas.
Sheriff Cruickshank (pictured) is a solicitor advocate and senior partner of Elgin-based Cruickshank Law Practice. He holds a number review group appointments within the judiciary.
He told the newspaper he plans to live in Shetland during the weeks the court operates.
“I want to get to know the community as well as I can,” he said.
“I have always practised in the north of Scotland, and I very much enjoy island life in many respects,” he added.
Incumbent post-holder, Sheriff Philip Mann will sit at Aberdeen Sheriff Court from next month.
