SLAS archive comes into care of Signet Library

The archive of the Scottish Law Agents Society (SLAS) is now in the care of the Signet Library, where it will be made accessible for study and scholarship.

SLAS, which came into being by royal charter in 1883 as the Incorporation of Law Agents in Scotland, is the largest and oldest voluntary association of solicitors in Scotland.

This accession is the first by the Signet Library of its kind and was brokered by The Ballast Trust, the University of Glasgow and SLAS vice president David MacLennan.

The initial deposit of reports, sederunt books, the society scrapbook, letter books and occasional papers covers a large section of the society’s first century of activity.
