SLN/DLA Piper legal essay winner Ross Jespersen describes placement as ‘invaluable’
Ross Jespersen (pictured), the winner of theScottish Legal News / DLA Piper Essay Competition has described his placement at the firm as “invaluable”.
Ross, who has a particular interest in the way law intersects with technology, was chosen by a panel of academics from Dundee and Edinburghuniversities as the winner for his essay entitled “Is Google’s ‘Right to be Forgotten’ in the Public Interest?” He won a cash prize of £500 and a two-week placement at the global law firm.
He said: “When I entered the Scottish Legal News / DLA Piper Essay Competition I had no idea that I would eventually win. Having finished the summer scheme I will hold on to the invaluable experience I have gained for a long time to come.”
The scheme was a “great experience”, Ross said he was “treated as a valued member of the team being tasked with a large array of interesting work. There was never a dull moment with exciting court trips and social evenings organised throughout the process.”
Over the two weeks, he experienced two seats “with numerous insightful presentations from individuals in other departments within the firm.”
He added that “It was a great achievement to have my winning entry published in the Scottish Legal news Annual Review 2016.
“Entering the DLA Piper / Scottish Legal News Essay Competition has been a great experience for me and DLA Piper’s international standing and global outlook would be a great starting point for any ambitious graduate seeking a traineeship opportunity.”
