Solicitor Elizabeth Rose goes the extra 90 miles in aid of charity
A lawyer ran 5km every day in September to raise money for a charity that conducts research into sepsis.
Elizabeth Rose, founder of L&M MediLaw, took on the challenge after she interviewed Colin Graham, COO of the charity Sepsis Research FEAT to discuss Sepsis Awareness Month, which takes place each year in September.
The conversation covered the five signs of sepsis, the increasing resistance of antibiotics and also the research the charity was seeking funding to carry out.
Ms Rose went further than the suggested fundraising commitment of “5km in September” to agreeing in the interview to do 5km every day in September. Cue 5.30am starts each morning to cover the distance before work.
After raising £1,000 Levy & McRae matched the figure. The current total stands at £2,085.
Ms Rose said: “It was quite a spur of the moment decision as before the interview I was thinking to do one 5km in September. I’m not a runner so it was quite a change for me to be out so early covering the miles, in good weather and bad. It was all for a good cause of course, and in a strange way I think I actually am going to miss it!”
David McKie, senior partner of Levy & McRae, added: “Passionate lawyers are at the heart of Levy & McRae. Elizabeth typifies that with her engagement with charities, organisations and on issues which affect her clients. Her fundraising for Sepsis research was remarkable and we delighted to match her excellent efforts in money, if not in sweat!”
Colin Graham, of Sepsis Research FEAT, said: “Thank you for raising funds for us during Sepsis Awareness Month and showing your support to the work of Sepsis Research FEAT. We are delighted you have completed your 5k a day challenge and at the same time raising awareness of the early warning signs associated with sepsis. I would also like to thank Levy McRae for doubling Elizabeth’s fundraising efforts.”
