Solicitor fined £10,000 after failing client in divorce action
A solicitor has been fined £10,000 after he failed to timeously raise and proceed with a divorce action on behalf of his client.
Quinton Muir, 53, was found guilty of professional misconduct by the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal (SSDT) after failing to carry out proceedings over the course of two years.
In its finding, the SSDT stated: “The Tribunal concluded that the seriousness of the conduct contained within the Complaint did not in itself merit suspension. However, the Tribunal was in agreement with the Respondent that a censure in this case would not be sufficient.”
It added: “This was the fourth conduct issue for the Respondent and as a result has serious potential consequences for the reputation of the profession.”
