Solicitor General’s son given community payback order for assaulting girlfriend
The son of one of Scotland’s law officers has been given a community payback order for assaulting his girlfriend.
Andrew Thomson, 27, son of the Solicitor General Lesley Thomson, has been ordered to undertake 60 hours of unpaid work within three months after he attacked his partner.
He appeared in the domestic abuse court at Glasgow Sheriff Courtyesterday to hear of his fate.
Mr Thomson previously admitted to pushing Heather Wallace in January at a flat in Partick – causing her to fall over a table.
Last month he appeared in the court again where it was heard he had not been of good behaviour since admitting the offence.
Sentencing had been deferred for six months until August before it emerged he was once again in trouble with the police.
In May he shouted and swore at passers-by and challenged them to a fight while drunk, for which he was handed a fixed penalty.
The hearing also heard claims he was found in possession of cannabis last month but this has yet to be reported to the procurator fiscal.
Sheriff Joan Kerr imposed a community payback order on Mr Thomson in lieu of a fine.
Mr Thomson’s defence lawyer told the court: “Mr Thomson tells me he sees his girlfriend every day, they have a close relationship, they both appreciate that there were issues concerning alcohol consumption that were impacting on their relationship.”
He also said that while it was serious because of the domestic aggravation it was nevertheless on the “lower end of the spectrum”.
In 2013 Mr Thomson was fined £1,100 after he drove into a marquee, having drunk more than twice the legal limit.
