Solicitor Lamont Baillie suffers fatal crash with deer
Lanarkshire solicitor Lamont Baillie has died after colliding with a deer while cycling, The Times reports.
Mr Baillie, 71, had worked with Ness Gallagher Solicitors in Wishaw.
Graham Keys, a solicitor with the firm, tweeted: “My friend and colleague Lamont Baillie has sadly and suddenly died.
“If you ever met Lamont you will remember him. If you didn’t, I’m sorry that you will not now have that privilege. He was a one-off and I will miss him greatly.”
“He was one of the founding guys in the firm. He hired me and everyone else who is there. We were all very fond of him.”
Incidents on the road involving deer are becoming increasingly common. The government agency, NatureScot said: “It is estimated that collisions between deer and vehicles could be as high as 9,000 per year in Scotland, resulting in 50 to 100 human injuries.
“The majority of collisions take place in early evening through to midnight, with another peak occurring from 6am to 9am.”
A spokesperson for the National Deer-Vehicle Collisions Project said: “Although many people think most accidents with deer and vehicles occur on more remote Highland roads, in Scotland at least 40 per cent are recorded on A-class trunk roads or motorways.
“Roe deer in particular have become well established in the urban fringe of many major towns and have also spread into parks and other green spaces close to the center of cities such as Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.”
