Solicitor pleads guilty to embezzling more than £12,500

A solicitor who prepared false invoices for non-existent work in order to steal more than £12,500 from clients’ accounts has pleaded guilty to embezzlement.

Louise Sutherland, 60, took the money while employed at Graeme Murray & Co Solicitors in Aberdeen in an attempt to save her husband’s business.

The offences became known in July 2013 and Ms Sutherland was ultimately struck off by the Law Society of Scotland before the matter was handed to police.

At Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday she pleaded guilty to a charge of embezzlement.

Sheriff Margaret Hodge deferred sentence for reports.
