South Africa’s Professor Thuli Madonsela to be admitted as fellow of WS Society
Featured in the latest Signet magazine, celebrated South African lawyer and social justice campaigner Professor Thuli Madonsela is to be admitted as a fellow of the WS Society.
Professor Madonsela had been due to appear at the Signet Library on 30 April but due to the pandemic, the event has been postponed until a later date.
Named one of TIME 100’s most influential people in the world in 2014, and Forbes Africa Person of the Year 2016, Professor Madonsela is South Africa’s best-known constitutional lawyer and co-architect of several laws anchoring the country’s democracy.
She recently completed a seven-year term as South Africa’s Public Protector, a quasi-judicial body responsible for investigating and redressing maladministration, corruption, executive ethic violations and related improprieties in state affairs.
A lifelong activist on social justice, constitutionalism, human rights, good governance and the rule of law, Professor Madonsela is also one of the inaugural leaders of the South African Women Lawyers Association (SAWLA).
With 1.3 million Twitter followers, she has a global reputation for integrity and fearlessness in enforcing accountability and justice in the exercise of public power and use of public resources.
