Specialist membership for lawyers advising on older client law launches in Scotland

The not-for-profit organisation provides practical advice, know-how and best practice for working lawyers such as solicitors, barristers and chartered legal executives advising on areas including wills and powers of attorney.

Following the membership’s official launch on 26th January, SFE is keen to recruit more members in Scotland to help support elderly and vulnerable people and to communicate the importance of seeking specialist legal advice.

Full-accredited SFE members receive a range of benefits, including business referrals, training discounts, access to an extensive online database and various regional and national conferences and networking events.

To become a fully accredited member, lawyers must have a minimum of three years’ experience advising in areas of older client law and have completed the Older Client Care in Practice Award – an assessment which demonstrates the specialist client care skills that enable lawyers to advise and support older and vulnerable clients.

Elspeth Paget, regional coordinator for Scotland, said: “Scotland has been on our radar for a while as an area with a particularly large demand for specialist support in older client care, and we are extremely pleased to be able to extend our member benefits to professionals across the country.

“Our sector is becoming increasingly important as the UK’s population gets older and professional memberships like SFE, which distinguish lawyers who provide the highest level of specialist legal care and support, are needed more now than ever.

“Since its launch in 1996, SFE has grown into a membership of over 1,500 lawyers across England and Wales, and is widely regarded as the gold standard for solicitors and chartered legal executives advising on older client law. We look forward to replicating this success, and more importantly, making a difference to older people here in Scotland.”
