Strathclyde Mediation Clinic wins community award at Scottish Legal Awards
Strathclyde Mediation Clinic was presented with the 2021 Community Contribution Award at the Scottish Legal Awards in Glasgow last week.
Responding speedily to the pandemic the Mediation Clinic moved all its services online and is now providing mediation under simple procedure rules in 18 of Scotland’s sheriff courts.
The clinic was launched by Sir Jim McDonald, principal of the University of Strathclyde, in 2013. It enables students and experienced mediators to work together to provide a free small claims mediation service and forms part of Strathclyde’s LLM/MSc in mediation and conflict resolution.
Head of the Law School, Professor Claire McDiarmid, said: “This is fantastic news for the Mediation Clinic and a great endorsement of the Law School’s commitment to mediation as a form of dispute resolution.
“It’s a tribute to the work of clinic director, Charlie Irvine, and its administrator, Pauline McKay. I would also like to offer a huge thanks to all the mediators and students who support the work: this valuable service relies on their skill and dedication.”
The Community Contribution Award is sponsored by Frasia Wright Associates.
