SYLA announces first five free events for 2015/16
The Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA), returning from its Summer break, has announced the first five in a series of free events in its 2015/2016 calendar.
On Thursday 27 August from 6pm, SYLA will be hosting a repeat of last year’s ‘Tapas in the City on us’nights, simultaneously in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, featuring a quiz, networking, and tapas.
On 15 September from 6pm, the So you want to be series returns for 2015/2016, with the first event hosted in conjunction with the Scottish Discrimination Law Association.
‘So you want to be a discrimination lawyer’ will feature Alun Thomas, an accredited specialist in employment law, and Amanda Jones, an accredited specialist in both discrimination and employment law, to discuss what separates discrimination law from employment law; the unique characteristics of discrimination claims; the management of discrimination issues; the potential outcomes; and the role of mediation.
On 24 September, SYLA will collaborate once again with RICS Matrics, the professional body for young surveyors, to host a joint networking event entitled ‘Social Media - the Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. It will feature a panel of speakers and give young lawyers an opportunity to meet young surveyors working across Scotland.
On 29 September, TM Lewin will host their work wardrobe refresh event, featuring entertainment, refreshments and the opportunity to view the brand new collection through a mini fashion show. Special offers will be available in store on the night.
On 26 October, the ‘Beyond the Basics’ series returns with a look at how to develop ‘Financial & Commercial Awareness for Young Lawyers’. Kindly hosted by RBS, the session will see Scott Foster, relationship director at RBS and Greig Honeyman of Shepherd & Wedderburn share their experiences.
