SYLA announces full line-up for Civil Day Conference on 9 March

On 9 March 2015, the Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association will host a new conference for 2015, entitled SYLA Civil Day Conference: The Changing Landscape.

The SYLA are delighted to announce that the conference will be sponsored by Digby Brown LLP.

Chaired by Fraser Oliver, the chief executive of Digby Brown, the day is aimed at practitioners working in civil litigation and will cover the latest updates on court practice, together with an update on the currently evolving dispute resolution landscape in Scotland. The conference will offer separate specialist streams in the afternoon for those working across personal injury, family law and commercial litigation.

Delegates will hear from:

  • Sheriff Principal Abercrombie QC leading a Q&A session on Civil Court Procedure;
  • McNeill & Cadzow on Getting it Right: Court Documentation;
  • Laura Dunlop QC on Interviewing Skills & Dealing with Challenging Witnesses; and
  • Scott & Co with an update on the latest in Service & Diligence.
  • After lunch, there will be a panel session on the latest updates regarding theCourt Reform (Scotland) Act 2014 and the consultation on expenses and funding of civil litigation in Scotland.

    Delegates will then split into three separate afternoon streams, according to their chosen specialism:

    • The Personal Injury Stream will be led by Robert Kernagan, partner at Digby Brown LLP;
    • The Family Law Stream will be led by Nicola Gilchrist, Advocate; and
    • The Commercial Litigation stream will be led Graeme Macleod, partner at CMS Cameron McKenna LLP.
    • The conference will close with a drinks reception, kindly sponsored by theCompensate Personal Injury Network.

      The conference will be held at the Doubletree by Hilton, Kingsway West, Dundee, DD2 5JT.

      It will offer 6 hours CPD, at the rate of £60 per delegate.
