The Scottish Young Lawyers Association (SYLA) cordially invites all members to attend its General Meeting on May 7th at 12:30 PM via Zoom.

In order to make changes to the SYLA’s constitution, the organisation is required to hold a General Meeting of its members. Changes to the constitution may be enacted in the event that no less than two-thirds of those members (including the SYLA committee) in attendance, vote in favour of the changes.

At this meeting, the SYLA will propose amendments to its constitution, aimed at enhancing the efficacy and relevance of the organisation. These proposed changes include (but are not limited to):

  1. Change of the SYLA term date: The SYLA will propose altering the date of the SYLA term to better align with the evolving needs of its members and the legal community.
  2. Appointment of additional committee members: In response to the expanding scope of its activities and output, the SYLA seeks to appoint additional committee members. This includes an additional secretary and treasurer to join the executive committee, a social media manager, and 10 non-executive committee members (in total).
  3. Reform of committee member appointment process: The SYLA intends to amend and update the process for appointing committee members to ensure transparency, inclusivity, and efficiency in its operations.
  4. General Amendments to the constitution: Various updates and adjustments will be proposed to ensure that the SYLA’s constitution remains fit for purpose, robust and adaptable to the evolving landscape of the legal profession.

The General Meeting is convened so that members can vote accordingly in advance of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) whereby the SYLA will elect a new committee for 2024-2025. The AGM will take place on 30th May 2024 and more details regarding the AGM will follow in due course.
