SYLA to host trainee moot
Have you missed out on advocacy experience as a result of COVID-19? The Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA) is hosting a moot aimed at trainee solicitors.
There will be 20 places available for current trainees giving them an opportunity to practice their remote advocacy skills. The moot will take place on Zoom, with the participants receiving feedback on both their written and oral advocacy skills from respected members of the profession.
Each participant will be allocated a partner with whom they will work collaboratively to draft written submissions and to present the oral argument. Teams will be given 20 minutes each in which to present their oral arguments during the session.
Prior to the moot, all participants will be invited to attend a group session hosted by SYLA committee member, Antonia Welsh, advocate. She will explore the ins and outs of presenting an argument on a remote platform and help to guide the participants in how to build their legal arguments.
To register your interest please email antonia.welsh@westwateradvocates.com. Spaces will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Please indicate in the email your current year of training and any dates that you will be unavailable during the week of 27 July 2020.
The moots will take place in the week of 27 July 2020, with the introductory session on advocacy for all of the participants taking place on Tuesday 14 July at 5pm.
