Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh loses seat to Tory newcomer
The SNP’s Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh, a solicitor, has lost her seat of Ochil and South Perthshire to Conservative Luke Graham.
Ms Ahmed-Sheikh entered Parliament in 2015 for the SNP but had previously stood for the Scottish Conservatives in Holyrood elections and had been a member of the Labour Party before that.
Before becoming an MP she practised as a solicitor with Hamilton Burns WS, which went into administration in May, leaving nine staff redundant.
The firm is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Law Society of Scotland, which is looking at administrative matters during Ms Ahmed-Sheikh’s time at the firm.
Last month a spokesperson for the SNP said: “The party is aware that administrative matters relating to Tasmina’s time at her former firm are being looked into.
“Hundreds of issues are raised with the Law Society every year and it is right that they investigate them.”
