Tayside sports clubs benefit from annual fundraiser
The 25th Annual Dundee Sportsman’s Dinner raised £19,000 last year to support sports clubs and organisations across Tayside - and 16 local clubs and sports people recently received their allocation of funds.
The charity dinner - sponsored by Thorntons, Brewin Dolphin, DWK Office Solutions and Bank of Scotland - recognises the achievements of local sports people.
The event also generates funding for a wide range of trips, competitions, equipment and coaching for sports clubs and organisations across Tayside.
British senior figure skating champion 2015/16 Danni Harrison, who was awarded the title of “Young Sports Person of the Year” at last year’s event, presented each of the clubs with their share of the £19,000 total.
Some of the Tayside organisations who benefited from the 2016 fundraising event include: Dundee Stars Junior Ice Hockey, Brae Riding for the Disabled, Dundee East Sports Club, Dundee Wanderers Hockey Club, and Dundee Hawkhill Harriers.
Also receiving a donation on behalf of Harris FP Rugby Club will be Dave Stibbles. Mr Stibbles was the recipient of the dinner’s Unsung Hero Award for his commitment to tutoring, coaching and mentoring thousands of young people in sport and Duke of Edinburgh.
