Team Scotland trio return to the Brodies Schools Swimming Championships

Euan Inglis, Corrie Scott and Jack Thorpe – who represented Scotland at this year’s Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast – were at the Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh to cheer on school teams in the relay races and present them with medals.

All three swimmers competed in the Brodies Scottish Schools Swimming Championships from a young age before representing their country in the sport.

Commonwealth bronze medallist Jack said: “I can still remember the first time that I took part in the championships, it was at Tollcross in Glasgow. It was an opportunity to compete in a much larger venue than I was used to, in front of a big crowd, which was a great experience for me as a young swimmer.”

Euan explained: “I always enjoyed competing in the team and individual events, the team ones give people the opportunity to work together, and for those who are more experienced, to take on a leadership role. It’s this kind of team working that helps swimmers like us to prepare for being part of a team later in our swimming careers.”

This year marks the 12th year that Brodies has sponsored the Scottish Schools Swimming Championships, which gives primary and secondary school pupils an opportunity to represent their school at an individual and team level and compete to become national school champions.

Corrie added: “Brodies has sponsored the championships for so long, it’s become a name that people recognise throughout the swimming scene. Having this kind of support is so important to the continuation of the event, which gives young swimmers an opportunity to race against others at a national level and to experience taking part in a major competition.”
