Terra Firma Chambers launches Spring webinar series
Terra Firma Chambers is launching a spring webinars series with two events looking at the ways in which communities can now use the law to require the transfer of land and other property to them.
There are an increasing number of community groups making applications under these provisions, which raise important issues for landowners, particularly public authorities, and, of course, for the communities involved.
These webinars will feature expert advocates from Terra Firma Chambers, who between them have extensive experience in advising or appearing in this growing area of legal practice.
The first webinar will take place via Zoom on Thursday 11 March 2021 at 11am. Robert Sutherland will speak on the ‘Community Right to Buy’, which gives rights to communities across Scotland to acquire land from both public and private landowners. Mark Lazarowicz will speak about ‘Asset Transfer’ which allows communities to request the transfer or use of land and property from local councils and a wide range of other public authorities. The Seminar will be chaired by Fred Mackintosh QC.
There is no registration fee but prior booking is necessary, using the following link: https://tinyurl.com/y3v8n35b
The second webinar takes place on Thursday 18 March 2021, on the topic of ‘Common Good Property’. At this event James Findlay QC and Scott Blair will review the state of the law on common good and consider recent case law. The event will also look at the effect of recent provisions requiring greater consultation with local communities if a local authority intends to dispose of common good land. Both webinars have been accredited for 1 hour of CPD for members of Faculty and are eligible for a similar award from the Law Society for the solicitor branch of the profession. Terra Firma would welcome any questions in advance and these should be emailed to seminars@terrafirmachambers.com.
