Terra Firma Chambers ranked in seven practice areas in latest edition of Chambers UK

Terra Firma Chambers has been recognised as a leading stable in seven practice areas in the latest edition of Chambers & Partners UK Bar Guide 2025, launched yesterday.

In addition to retaining Band 1 rankings for Agriculture & Rural Affairs, Planning and Environmental Law, Private Client and Tax, plus Band 2 rankings for Employment and Real Estate Litigation, TFC has also received a new Band 1 ranking for Licensing.

In highlighting Terra Firma’s strength in Licensing, Chambers identifies Scott Blair as the “go-to advocate for licensing cases in Scotland.” While James Findlay KC “has an excellent reputation for providing strong advice and excellent advocacy.”  Scott and James remain the only Counsel ranked for licensing in Scotland, both receiving Band 1 rankings.  In terms of the service provided by the stable, the clerking team are described as “very high quality, incredibly easy to deal with and make sure all sides are happy” while “Emma Caskie-Potter, practice manager, is really first class.”

The stable’s position as market leaders for Planning and Environment is reaffirmed with an 11th successive Band 1 ranking.  Described as a “highly acclaimed stable”, Terra Firma received five individual Band 1 rankings for Douglas Armstrong KC, Alasdair Burnet KC, James Findlay KC, Graham Dunlop and Maurice O’Carroll.  TFC are the only stable with rankings for Junior Counsel in this area.

Once again, Terra Firma is the only stable at the Scottish Bar recognised for its expertise in Agriculture & Rural Affairs, achieving a Band 1 ranking for the 10th consecutive year. Robert Sutherland (Band 1) is described as “first-class in everything that he does and is very reliable” while “the clerks are attentive and responsive.”

Terra Firma members received 28 individual recommendations for their expertise across a range of practice areas including Administrative & Public Law, Civil Liberties & Human Rights, Commercial Dispute Resolution, Immigration and Product Liability.  Both Alasdair Burnet KC and James Findlay KC received four individual rankings with James also receiving a further three rankings for his work at the Bar of England & Wales.

The clerking team at Terra Firma are recognised for their expertise and professionalism across all practice areas: “The clerks are always very friendly, quick to respond and helpful. They are quickly able to suggest a range of advocates who might suit our particular dispute.” “The set offers an excellent service.”
