Advocate Paul Harvey and Lord Turnbull’s new book, The Law of Sexual Offences in Scotland, is now available to buy.

The book, published by Bloomsbury Professional, is the comprehensive guide to the law and practice of sexual offences in Scotland.

It covers all sexual offences in Scots law as well as those offences that, though not strictly sexual offences, are often committed against intimate partners.

It also provides an outline of the main principles and sources of evidence in sexual offences cases, and commentary on how the main sexual offences in Scots law are investigated, prosecuted and tried in the Scottish courts.

It also contains two chapters by two highly regarded experts in their fields.

Dr Deborah Wardle, lead consultant for West of Scotland Sexual Assault Services, has written a chapter on medical evidence in sexual offences cases.

Dr Nighean Stevenson, forensic lead in DNA interpretation at the Scottish Police Authority, forensic services, has contributed a chapter on the main forms of forensic scientific evidence in sexual offences cases and the presentation of that evidence in court.

Paula O’Connell, managing editor at Bloomsbury Professional, said: “We at Bloomsbury Professional are absolutely delighted to have this important new book on our Scots law list. There has long been a need for an authoritative book on sexual offences law in Scotland.  We believe this book amply fills that need.”
