Thompsons makes associate promotions
Thompsons has promoted Seonaid Brophy (pictured right) from the union accident team and Jillian Merchant (pictured below) from the firm’s employment law department to associate level.
Ms Brophy joined Thompsons in 2012 after completing the Diploma. She started her traineeship in the lung disease team before joining the union accident team in March 2013. Since that time, she has acted for union members who have been involved in accidents at work, road traffic accidents, accidents offshore and accidents in public places.
Partner Wendy Durie said: “I am delighted that Seonaid has been promoted to Associate within the Union Accident Team. It is a very well deserved promotion which reflects Seonaid’s unwavering loyalty, commitment and hard work since she joined the firm in 2012.”
Ms Brophy added: “I’m extremely happy to have been given this huge vote of confidence by the firm and I’m looking forward to this new challenge.”
Commenting on Ms Merchant’s appointment, David Martyn, partner in the employment division, said: “Jillian has very quickly developed an outstanding practice in employment and regulatory law. She works for Scotland’s major trade unions, with whom she shares a genuine passion for social justice and improving the lives of working people in Scotland.”
Ms Merchant commented: “As a labour and trades union activist I am proud to work for the only firm in Scotland that solely represents employees. With equal pay, discrimination, sexual harassment and precarious work major issues in the Scottish workplace I look forward to continuing to work closely with colleagues in the trades unions movement to make the workplace that bit fairer for working people.”
