TLT secures ‘pop-up’ licences for traders during Edinburgh Festival

TLT’s Niall Hassard, licensing legal director, has successfully represented four traders and the local Business Improvement District Essential Edinburgh to secure licensing permissions for a ‘pop up’ dining experience to take place during the iconic Edinburgh Festival 2016.

Edinburgh’s George Street has now been closed to traffic for the duration of the festival, making way for the “pop up” dining experience on the roadway and pavements, which commenced on Friday. The outside eating and drinking spaces will be provided by local leisure operators including TLT clients Gusto, Tigerlily and Candy Bar, amongst others.

Mr Hassard said: “Securing the permissions required collaboration and innovation from all involved because it did not fit neatly within the structures of the licensing system.

“To achieve this fantastic result for the city, various stakeholders including the operators, several council departments, the local BID Essential Edinburgh, and the licensing board, worked closely together for several months to agree a blueprint for the vital permissions. The festival is now in full swing and we are sure the George Street experience will be a great success.”
