TLT secures rare license extension for Glasgow nightclub

TLT has successfully secured a permanent 3am licence extension for south side Glasgow nightclub The Shed. This is only the second 3am licence agreed outside the city centre as an exemption to the policy of Glasgow Licensing Board, which permits 3am within the city centre but 2am outwith for late opening premises.

The Shawlands based club secured its new 3am licence for Friday and Saturday evenings on 20 May after a long hearing in which a number of submissions were made on behalf of the operator, Michele Pagliocca. The submissions outlined why an exception should be made, including the establishment of a “Night Zone” marshalled taxi rank adjacent to the club.

TLT’s head of licensing (Scotland), partner Stephen McGowan, who represented the club on its successful application said: “The Glasgow Licensing Board takes every case on its own merits. In this case, The Shed worked tirelessly with a number of stakeholders over an 18 month period learning lessons from previous rejected applications and bringing fresh arguments to the table.

“The Licensing Board gave us a full and fair hearing and listened to a number of submissions based on policy and the licensing objectives.

“Notwithstanding this individual decision, the 2am/3am Glasgow policy hours differential remains and the widely anticipated November 2016 review of all Scottish Licensing Board policies, including Glasgow, is now likely to be delayed until November 2018 as a result of the recent Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015.”
