Trial adjourned after witnesses self-quarantine following Thailand trip
A trial has been delayed on the advice of medical experts after it emerged that two witnesses had recently returned from Thailand, The Courier reports.
Forfar man Malcolm Kane, 32, had been present at Forfar Sheriff Court for his breach of the peace trial when the case was adjourned.
Michael Boyd, defending, said his client was pleading not guilty.
“I understand there will be a Crown motion to adjourn the trial due to two of the Crown witnesses being in quarantine as a result of the coronavirus situation,” said Mr Boyd.
Depute fiscal Laura McGillvery told the court: “That is correct. Both have recently returned from Thailand.”
She said one witness had submitted a letter from an infectious diseases consultant at Ninewells Hospital saying the witness should remain in quarantine until February 22 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Sheriff Ian Anderson set a new trial date of April 29.
