Trump’s company settles £225,000 legal bill with Scottish government
The Trump Organization has paid a £225,000 legal bill with the Scottish government after losing a court battle over a windfarm near the company’s Aberdeenshire golf course.
US President Donald Tump’s firm agreed to settle the legal bill before a dispute over the costs went to adjudication.
Trump sued ministers in 2012 over a decision to authorise and support the building of an 11-turbine windfarm two miles from the southern boundary of the golf course north of Aberdeen.
Mr Trump said the scheme was “monstrous” and that it was given the go-ahead because he had frozen additional spending on the resort.
Judges in the Court of Session ruled earlier this year that he was liable to pay the Scottish government’s legal costs.
A Scottish government spokesman said: “We can confirm that settlement has now been reached – and this has removed the need for the expenses to be determined by the auditor of the court of session.
“Expenses amounting to £225,000 will now be paid to Scottish ministers by the petitioners [the Trump Organization].”
