Trustlaw to host free pro bono event
TrustLaw, the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono legal service, is to host a free-to-attend virtual event focused on helping Scottish lawyers develop their skills and understanding in delivering pro bono legal work, in partnership with the law firm CMS.
The Legal Roundtable: Strengthening Pro Bono in Scotland event takes place on Tuesday 3 November from 12.30pm to 2pm as part of the 19th annual Pro Bono Week.
With input from a number of pro bono specialists, TrustLaw will explore helpful practices as well as challenges and the lessons learnt in delivering pro bono legal support in Scotland. Participants will hear about current pro bono legal opportunities and be guided through TrustLaw’s Championing Pro Bono Guide, released in January 2019.
TrustLaw’s senior legal manager Europe, Middle East & North Africa Sarah Farrelly and TrustLaw’s programme manager UK and Northern Europe Adriano Mancinelli will be joined by Chris Rae, partner and corporate responsibility sponsor at CMS, his colleague Emily Catterwell, CMS senior CR manager Scotland, as well as Elaine Crichton of Inspiring Scotland and Rebecca Samaras of Edinburgh Law School.
“TrustLaw works with legal teams to help them assess and strengthen their pro bono work. During these challenging days, we are excited to organise this virtual event in Scotland which is designed to facilitate a conversation about helpful pro bono practices, as well as challenges and lessons learnt. We have seen a growth in pro bono in Scotland in recent years, and we are keen to share some interesting pro bono opportunities and highlight a local case study showing the great impact which free legal advice can have for a non-profit,” Said Sarah Farrelly.
“We’re delighted to be teaming up with TrustLaw and other organisations to stage this insightful event. We will be discussing how pro bono legal support works best and sharing our joint experiences to help other legal professionals ensure they are able to help organisations and the communities they serve,” said Mr Rae.
