Two new Senators appointed to College of Justice
Her Majesty the Queen has appointed two new Senators to the College of Justice on the recommendation of the First Minister.
Sheriff Paul Arthurson QC and Alan Summers QC will sit as judges in the Court of Session and the High Court of Justiciary.
Mr Summers has enjoyed a distinguished career at the bar since calling in 1994, taking silk in 2008. He has been an ad hoc advocate depute since 2013 and treasurer of the Faculty of Advocates since 2012. He was chairman of Faculty Services Ltd between 2008 and 2012.
Between 2000 and 2007 he was standing junior counsel to the Scottish Executive acting principally for the Health Department and the Keeper of the Registers of Scotland. He has acted as special counsel to the UK government since 2007.
