Uganda opportunity a privilege for advocate and family
Advocate Tim Haddow and his family had a “fantastic experience” working in a community in rural Eastern Uganda for two weeks with charity Mission Direct.
Tim said: “Our main project was assisting with the build of a classroom at the local primary school which will enable the school’s Primary 4 class, currently over 200 children in a single classroom, to be sub-divided.
“We were also involved with other community work with local church and community groups including a school for deaf children, an orphanage and a centre working with vulnerable and marginalised children.”
He added: “Along with a few other members of the team, I also had the opportunity to visit the local prison, meet some of the prisoners and take part in a prison church service – a quite extraordinary experience in every possible way.
“We also had our final day in Murchison National Park, gaining a flavour of the amazing wildlife and natural environment in Uganda.”
Tim said that he and his family “feel really privileged” to have taken part in the work, an opportunity which allowed them to meet “Ugandan teachers, community workers and church members who were doing such amazing work, despite their own circumstances being so much harder than our own.”
Tim has posted a short thread and a few photographs with more information about his family’s trip on Twitter.
