Mr Valiente is the legal services manager and data protection officer for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the fourth largest fire service in the world. He is also a co-convener of the In-house Lawyers Committee of the Law Society of Scotland.

SOLAR promotes and represents the interests of Scottish local authority and public sector lawyers and administrators.

Mr Valiente said: “I am delighted, honoured and privileged to become the president of SOLAR, an organisation I hold very close to my heart and truly believe in the fantastic work it does for the benefit of the public sector and the community as a whole.

“I am proud to be the first Venezuelan-Scot and the first fire service lawyer to hold the role. I would like to thank Jan Todd, for all her hard work, effort and commitment she gave whilst President for the last two years. I will very much miss working with her, she has been an inspiration.”
