Voting now open for Law Society Council elections
Voting is now open for the Law Society of Scotland’s Council elections and solicitors in the five contested constituencies are being encouraged to make the most of their vote.
This year, eight of the 10 seats due to be filled will see a contested election after 17 solicitors put themselves forward to sit on the Council, the Society’s principle decision making body.
Lorna Jack, chief executive of the Law Society, said: “It is really positive to see so many of our members putting themselves forward to help their professional body lead and support a successful respected Scottish legal profession.
“Council members represent the views of Scottish solicitors and help to shape the Council’s policies and take decisions affecting the profession.
“The legal profession continues to go through a huge amount of change and I would encourage our members to take the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidates.”
Members have until 12 noon, 20 May to cast their votes and successful candidates will be appointed as Council members on 21 May, before this year’s annual general meeting on Thursday, 28 May.
More information about the candidates and how to vote can be found on the Law Society’s website.
