Watermans Legal celebrates success in charity fundraiser
Staff at Watermans in Edinburgh have raised more than £3,000 in vital funds for charity after generously volunteering their time and expertise to write people’s wills in exchange for donations.
Solicitors at the firm offered their time throughout the month of November to take part in Will Aid, an annual campaign devoted to raising cash for nine of the UK’s most important charities.
This is the ninth year the team at Watermans Legal, based in the Leith, have taken part.
Instead of paying for will services, clients of the firm make a voluntary donation to Will Aid.
Shawn Wood, a solicitor at Watermans Legal, said: “We are delighted to have been able to offer our vital services to people who don’t have wills and who are looking to put their affairs in order.
“Having a will brings clarity. It gives the granter control of who is to be appointed as executor and who is to inherit the estate. It certainly makes the winding-up process easier and more cost-effective.
“What’s even more rewarding is that at the same time, we have been able help some of the most vulnerable people in the world.”
Scott Whyte, managing director, said: “We are thrilled to see the uptake on this initiative form both new and existing clients alike.”
