Westwater announces September conference line-up

Over the summer, Westwater Advocates welcomed 5 members to the stable. This event showcases our new talent - 4 new members who joined after devilling and former member Mark Lazarowicz, who re-joins the stable following a successful Parliamentary career.

We invite you to join us for an afternoon of seminars the week before the introduction of the Court Reform Act. This free event offers 2.5 hours of CPD and will be chaired by Sir Crispin Agnew of Lochnaw Bt QC. Coffee will be served on arrival and there will be mid-afternoon refreshments.

Our new members are:

  • ANNE BENNIE:
  • The principal provisions of the Court Reform (Scotland) Act 2014

    In anticipation of the introduction of the new Act on 22 September 2015 with particular comment on the determination of the value of a claim provisions.

    • MARK LAZAROWICZ:
    • Recent UK legislation and its implications for Scotland

      An overview of recent UK legislation of importance for Scottish legal practitioners, with a particular focus on the Consumer Rights Act, the Deregulation Act, and the Small Business, Enterprise, and Employment Act. Reference will also be made to other recent legislation applicable to Scotland.

      • JANE RATTRAY:
      • The interface between divorce and personal injury

        In particular the extent to which a personal injuries claim is matrimonial property for sharing on divorce.

        • BRIAN CROOK:
        • Construction of contract – where is “commercially sensible” headed? And what practical lessons emerge?

          Exploring the development of the “commercially sensible” criterion in the construction of contracts and considering whether, in the light of recent Supreme Court judgements, it may have reached its high point; and the consequent practical lessons for drafting.

          • VINCENT LUNNY:
          • The criminal aspect of the Court Reform (Scotland) Act 2014

            An overview of forthcoming changes to criminal procedure under the Court Reform (Scotland) Act 2014 and the practical implications for Sheriff Court Criminal Practitioners.
