Women in Law Scotland seeks committee members following launch
On 21 April, Women in Law Scotland (WiLS) had its formal launch at the Law Society for Scotland, which was kindly sponsored by Scott & Co. The network aims to promote gender equality in the legal workplace through networking, sharing best practice and providing access to positive female role models and mentors.
The event was well attended by a variety legal professionals and speeches were enjoyed form president of the Law Society of Scotland Christine McLintock and Solicitor General Lesley Thomson who recounted tales from their own careers and their views on gender equality in the legal profession.
Also at the launch, Davinia Cowden, founding member of WiLS, formally announced the intention to form a WiLS committee and have local representatives to assist with event planning and growing the network over the coming months.
WiLS are now looking for committed and enthusiastic individuals who would like to be part of the organisation. WiLS are already very grateful to have received interest from a number of individuals working for larger, commercial firms, however part of the ethos of WiLS is that it should represent a variety of lawyers and paralegals and types and size of firm. WiLS are also keen to hear from individuals outside of the central belt to ensure they are as inclusive as possible.
If you’re interested in joining the WiLS committee, or would like further information, please email admin@womeninlawscotland.com with a short description about you, your career and what, in your view, the network should be doing going forward.
