Women in the Law UK to expand into Edinburgh
A not-for-profit professional and personal development organisation for women in the law will expand into Scotland with its first event in Edinburgh later this week.
Women in the Law UK, which was founded in Manchester by barrister Sally Penni, expanded into London, Leeds and Liverpool last autumn.
The Edinburgh launch will take place in DWF’s offices on Wednesday, 5.30pm, and will focus on the theme of “How to have confidence, clarity and connection in your career”.
The speakers will include Caroline Colliston, director at DWF; Rachel Roberts, managing partner at Stowe Family Law; and Susanne Tanner QC MCIArb of Ampersand Advocates.
Attendance at the event is free, with voluntary charitable donations being collected on the night. Guests must, however, pre-register online at www.womeninthelawuk.com/webevents.
Ms Penni, who practises out of Kenworthy’s Chambers in Manchester and is also vice chair of the Association of Women Barristers, said: “2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the Law Society of Scotland as well as the centenary of women being permitted to practise the law. It seems apt, therefore, that we should choose this year to hold our first event North of the Border.
“There is a lot going on here at the moment, including the Scottish Legal International initiative launched last year to promote the sector globally. We hope that our events will do their bit to help equip female solicitors and advocates to play a full part in, and reap the career benefits of, these developments.”
