Women in the Law UK to hold first Glasgow event this month

Entitled “Jobs for the girls: how to progress in your career with confidence”, the event will take place at the offices of Harper Macleod LLP in the Ca’d’oro building from 5.30pm to 8.00pm on Wednesday 26 June 2019.

This event follows on from Women in the Law UK’s successful launch in Edinburgh earlier this year, which marked the organisation’s first formal event in Scotland.

Speakers confirmed for the evening include Nicola Gordon, lay chair of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland, Naomi Pride, head of DWF’s Scottish commercial litigation team, Mary Bonsor, CEO of paralegal agency F-LEX, and Caroline McCarron from JMW Solicitors’ Lawshare team.

The event will also feature a presentation from Pamela Niven, head of Harper Macleod’s private client team. She will explore the most effective ways for female solicitors to progress to partnership.

Sally Penni, practising barrister and founder of Women in the Law UK, said: “I am really looking forward to this event, on a theme that has always been well-received wherever and whenever we have addressed it. There is no shortage of women entering the legal profession but we remain woefully under-represented in senior and leadership roles and, although the sector still needs to make some major structural changes, this event will give female lawyers vital insights into the steps they can take to help themselves right now.

“I am also really excited to be holding hold our first event in the great city of Glasgow and I would like to thank Harper Macleod for hosting us and enabling it to happen. Thank you, too, to all of our speakers – it’s going to be a fantastic evening.”
