WS Society launches AI special interest group

The WS Society is launching an AI special interest group (SIG) for its members.

Fiona Killen will lead the AI SIG. She said: “Scotland needs to catch up fast with the impact of AI in the law and legal system.

“There are huge issues in terms of consent, data protection, system integrity, copyright, ethics, and regulation. I hope the new AI SIG will form a nucleus of Scots lawyers working in the field, and to follow the WS Society is planning an AI Conference in 2025”.

The WS Society is introducing a number of SIGs for its members, groups with a shared interest in legal practices specialisms and in areas outside the law, in history, literature, and culture. SIGs will meet regularly and most meeting will be online, so location is no barrier to joining.

Chief executive Robert Pirrie WS said: “Our SIG initiative is open to all our members – from students to affiliate members to writers to the signet – to meet regularly in specialist subjects, whether these are in legal practice or in interests in other fields.

“Being an effective lawyer, one whose judgement is valuable, requires a breadth of understanding, informed not only by the law but by historical, social, economic, and psychological insight. That’s why the SIG are not only in legal subjects. If this idea appeals, join the WS Society.”
